Elizabeth Murray

Elizabeth A. Murray joined the firm of Graves Bartle Marcus & Garrett, LLC in January 2011, after working as an assistant prosecuting attorney for nearly four years in Greene County (Springfield), Missouri. Ms. Murray’s practice areas include civil rights litigation, commercial litigation, and white-collar criminal defense in state and federal court.

As an assistant prosecutor, Ms. Murray worked in the General Crimes Unit and prosecuted white-collar crimes, trafficking in stolen identities, financial crimes against the elderly, tax and public benefit crimes, and numerous other property, narcotics, and violent offenses. Ms. Murray was selected to serve as the Greene County liaison for Project Safe Neighborhoods and worked as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Western District of Missouri. Ms. Murray had the opportunity to prosecute federal firearms and drug offenses, beginning with grand jury indictment through jury trial and sentencing. Ms. Murray wrote appellate briefs and argued before the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.

From 2003 to 2006, Ms. Murray worked as a litigation staff attorney for the Alliance Defense Fund, a non-profit legal defense organization. Ms. Murray conducted civil rights litigation with a First Amendment emphasis. Two highlights of this public service were to win a declaratory judgment in the Northern District of Illinois and a preliminary injunction in the Northern District of California for the advancement of free speech and religious liberty.

Ms. Murray graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 2003, and is licensed to practice law in the states of Missouri, Kansas and Arizona. During law school, Ms. Murray had the opportunity to work for the Honorable Robert C. Broomfield in the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, the Alliance Defense Fund, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri, and Gilliland & Hayes, P.A. Ms. Murray has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Ms. Murray lives in the northland area of Kansas City, and has the joy of being the aunt of Alex, Avery Jane, Josiah, and Jonah.
