Clayton Callen

Mr. Callen joined Graves Bartle Marcus & Garrett in 2009 and practices in the areas of Free Speech Litigation, Election Law, and Complex Commercial Litigation.

Clayton CallenBefore joining GBMG, he practiced at Bopp Coleson & Bostrom in Indiana. While there, he litigated throughout the federal court system concentrating primarily in the areas of First Amendment law and election law. Among his trial and appellate practice, he served as counsel of record in the district court for the plaintiffs in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case challenging portions of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance legislation. Mr. Callen also clerked at the Alliance Defense Fund in Phoenix, Arizona, where he worked on constitutional law issues. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Callen gained experience in public policy by working at organizations such as The Heritage Foundation and Focus on the Family. He is licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri and is admitted to numerous federal courts across the country.

Mr. Callen graduated cum laude from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. While in law school, he served as Note and Comment Editor for the UMKC Law Review. He finished third overall in the school-wide H. Michael Coburn Moot Court Competition, which earned him a place on the UMKC National Moot Court Team. He also received a CALI award in recognition of his academic achievement in Constitutional Law. Mr. Callen graduated magna cum laude with a degree in political science from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri.

A native of Drexel, Missouri, Mr. Callen now resides in the Kansas City area with his wife, Sara. In 2011, Mr. Callen was appointed by the Johnson County (Kansas) Board of Commissioners to serve as a member of the Johnson County Transportation Council.
